ABOUT NAJAF
Najaf, with a population exceeding 700,000 people, is projected to grow by approximately 3% annually over the next decade—a notable rate compared to neighboring Syria and Iran. Nearly 60% of its residents are under 30 years old, a demographic poised to drive future retail demand. With a history dating back to pre-Islamic times, Najaf rose to prominence as the capital of the Islamic Ummah during the reign of Imam Ali Ibn Abu Talib. It holds significant religious and scholarly importance as the resting place of prophets Hood and Salih, peace be upon them, and the burial sites of Adam and Noah. Designated as the Capital of Islamic Culture in 2012, this holy city boasts rich historical sites. Located on the western plateau of Iraq, approximately 160 km southwest of Baghdad, Najaf stands 70 meters above sea level. It is bordered by Karbala to the north and northeast, the Najaf Sea to the west, Babylon to the east, and Diwaniyah and the Samawa desert to the south.
The province comprises four main districts:
- Najaf District, encompassing areas like Haidariyah, Network, Radwiyah, Baniqiya, and the city center.
- Kufa District, including Abbasiya, Haira, and Kufa city center.
- Al-Manathara District, with Al-Hira, Qadisiyah, and Al-Manadah city center.
- Al-Mashkhab District.
